Did You Ever Think About Why We Think Things Are Funny?

I know when someone blogs they are supposed to write stuff.  Not so this time.  Someone sent me a series of cartoons and I laughed out loud at some and others didn't even get a sound from me.  And I got to thinking, "What makes something funny?"  Why do Brits laugh at the stupid stuff they do and we Americans don't find it funny at all?  And vice versa, although I did get a mild chuckle out of Benny Hill every now and then.  Why do Moe, Larry and Curly crack me up, but every woman I've ever been with thinks they're stupid?  Did I tell you I'm single and have been for a while? I know... it's hard to believe.

In this post I'm attaching a series of cartoons and, like I said, I laughed out loud at each one.  This is your Rorschach test except the blots are in full color and have discernable pictures and words.  Okay, maybe it's not like a Rorschach test at all.

Anyway, Some of these you can show at the office and others probably would be considered a trip to HR waiting to happen, so be careful who you share them with.  And if you don't find them funny, I hear you can get a really cheap flat in London in this economy and don't forget to surrender your passport at Customs and Immigration when you leave.
Okay, here we go! By the way, although I found #2 highly humorous, I saved my favorite for last.

Next to Moe poking Curly in the eyes while twisting Larry's nose, nothing is funnier than assist dogs doing it.  Oh come on! You know it's funny and no, I am not making fun of people (or dogs) who are visually impaired..

Whitey out.

  1. While I didn't bust a gut at each one, they all were funny and audible laughter could be heard! Which is rare, to laugh out loud, when you're alone...takes a real funny to do that, I think. AND, a good sense of humor. I LOVE THIS TOPIC. A good sense of humor is so important to get one through the waves of life, to be able to laugh at yourself even more important. I believe a lot of this is genetics and how you were raised. My slightly warped sense of humor definitely came from my Dad and has helped me thru lots of rough spots in my life. At 82, after losing my Mom after 59 years of marriage, I envy his strength and sense of humor and pray I was blessed with both. Some people just don't like to laugh. They don't look at life the same as those of us who love to laugh. The last time I spoke to my Dad, he was 11 days out of back surgery and had to be feeling lousy. But he told me a few things that made me laugh out loud, he always does. First, he wanted me to know that the singing group he leads at the Baptist Village Assisted Living facility he lives in was upset with management for banning them from singing 99 bottles of beer on the wall. Against their beliefs. My dad's thoughts...."damned picky bastards, don't you think...we're just a bunch of old farts passing time" and he had a joke, this one clean but corny. WHAT DID ONE STRAWBERRY SAY TO THE OTHER? if it wasnt for you, we wouldn;t be in this jam....i laughed, did you?
