Balloon Boy

Sometimes I wake up in the morning and wonder "what stupid shit is going to happen in the world today?" And then most days, what unfolds during the course of the day is better (or worse, or sadder, or stupider...) than anything I could have imagined. Some kid floating in a homemade weather balloon spaceship chef hat-looking giant Jiffy Pop container that his tool of a father built in the back yard? The best thing that could have happened there was if the kid WAS INSIDE the balloon and it gently touched down in the parking lot of Child Protective Services. In the early afternoon an unknown kid is supposedly hiding in the attic of the house, in the evening he is on the Larry King Show, and the following morning he's spewing bits of the pop tarts he had for breakfast live on the Today Show. What just happened here? Maybe it's just a normal day for a kid named Falcon.

Update: Two days after this incident, the Balloon Mother tossed the Balloon Father under the proverbial spaceship and gave a sworn statement saying that they knew their child was hiding in the attic even when they made frantic phone calls to the FAA and emergency 911 service.
